Lighting is one of the most data-intensive product groups in the home sector. A luminaire or light source carries dozens of attributes, often across several variants and languages, plus a legal energy label. Keeping that in Excel inevitably leads to errors.
The typical lighting attributes
A lighting product combines commercial and technical data:
- Light color (warm white, neutral white, color temperature in Kelvin)
- Luminous flux (lumens) and wattage (watts)
- Dimmability and the dimming type
- Cap and connection (E27, GU10, integrated LED)
- IP protection rating for indoor or outdoor use
- Lifespan and number of switching cycles
- Energy label (A to G scale) and EPREL registration
- Dimensions, material, color and finish of the luminaire
Multiply that by color and size variants, and you quickly manage hundreds of data points per product line.
The energy label and EPREL: a legal obligation
Since 1 September 2021, new European rules apply to light sources. Regulation (EU) 2019/2015 requires an EU energy label on the rescaled A to G scale, and every light source placed on the market must be registered in the EPREL database, together with the product information sheet and the technical documentation. For manufacturers and importers this means: the right label value must demonstrably sit on the right product, on every channel.
A PIM links the energy label and EPREL data directly to the product and the variant, with version control. So you never publish a wrong or outdated label.
One source, every variant correct
In PimLayer you manage the product line centrally and let variants inherit from a parent product. Change a specification, and it flows down to all variants. The right lifestyle image and packshot are linked to the right color. From that single source the system publishes to your webshop, to marketplaces and to the dealer portal, always in the right format and language.
The result: a lighting range that is correct everywhere, with less manual work and no compliance risk on the energy label.
