Sound familiar?

Four channels, four formats, one Excel that knows none of them.

The wholesaler asks why the UGR value and the DALI features of 40 downlights are missing from the BMEcat file. bol takes 23 products offline because the product information sheet is not attached to the listing. The DIY chain wants the Recupel contribution and the packaging weight per piece, box and pallet for the GS1 database. And the French manual on the webshop still refers to the previous generation.

!

Luminous flux in three columns

'1450', '1,450 lm' and '1450lm' in three files for three channels. ETIM wants one numeric feature in lm, EPREL the same value on the product information sheet, and your webshop a filter. Three columns are three chances for an error.

#

Offline because of the energy label

bol has been taking products without label and product information sheet offline since April 2026, MediaMarkt Saturn requires the EPREL ID as a mandatory field, and the Commission found in 2026 that 97 percent of inspected webshops did not display the label correctly.

~

Manuals in a folder

The Code of Economic Law requires the instructions in NL, FR and DE. One PDF 'manual_all_languages' in a folder, linked to nothing, is what customer service finds when the air fryer changes generation.

How PimLayer helps

Every photometric value once, three channels fed.

◆

Specifications with unit and decimals

Luminous flux, power, colour temperature, Ra and R9, beam angle, L70B50, PstLM and SVM: every value once in the specification library. The ETIM mapping translates them into EF codes and value lists; the EPREL link supplies them for registration.

✓

EPREL assets on the model

Model identifier exactly as in EPREL, registration number and URL, class with scale range, and label (PNG, SVG, PDF) and product information sheet per language straight from EPREL as documents on the model. The variants inherit them; you never publish an outdated label.

⇄

ETIM to Cebeo, Rexel, Solar and Desco

Link your products to the ETIM classes, map your specifications to the features and export in BMEcat or ETIM xChange, with a short description of 80 characters, long text in HTML and images of at least 1000 by 1000 px as the Sonepar guidelines require. Or via the Techlink Data Portal.

▣

Three manuals, one product

Manual NL, FR and DE, declaration of conformity, LDT or IES file and BIM object hang as documents on the product, with version and date. PimLayer is PIM and DAM in one, so they flow to every channel that asks for them.

The field model

What your product data must be able to do in the electrical sector.

A selection from the field model in the whitepaper, for lighting; for household appliances you replace the photometric specifications with those of the product group's product information sheet.

Identification

Article number, GTIN per packaging level, model identifier exactly as in EPREL and on the label, EPREL registration number and URL, ETIM class with version, GPC brick for the DIY chains, manufacturer and responsible economic operator in the EU.

GTINEPREL IDETIM EC code

Light

Useful luminous flux in lm, luminous efficacy, colour temperature in K, Ra and R9, colour consistency (SDCM), beam angle and light distribution, flicker PstLM and stroboscopic effect SVM, lifetime L70B50, UGR, dimmable with protocol (DALI-2, D4i, Zigbee), cap, replaceability of light source and driver.

2019/2015EF018714DALI

Electrical

Power on, standby and networked standby, voltage and frequency, protection class I, II or III, IP rating (separate for front and rear in ETIM 10) and IK rating.

WV · HzIP / IK

Energy label

Energy efficiency class with scale range, energy consumption in kWh per 1000 h or per 100 cycles, label as PNG, SVG and PDF and product information sheet per language, repairability score for smartphones and tablets.

Compliance

Applicable directives and EU declaration of conformity (low voltage, EMC, RoHS, RED, ecodesign), quality marks with number, manual and safety information per language, USB-C pictogram and charging power, radio frequencies and software support period, repair information and parts availability.

Producer responsibility and assets

Recupel category and contribution, battery with chemistry, capacity, replaceability and Bebat code, WEEE symbol, packaging levels with material and weight, packshot on white, ambience image, dimensional drawing, photometric file (LDT, IES, GLDF) and BIM object.

The complete field model, with level (product, variant), data type, unit and the channel for which each field is mandatory, is in chapter 3 of the whitepaper.

Standards and channels

ETIM for the wholesaler, EPREL for the legislator, GS1 for the chains.

What each channel asks for, and what PimLayer exports per channel.

Electrical wholesalers and Techlink Data Portal
ETIM class plus all features, GTIN, short description of maximum 80 characters, long text in HTML, images of at least 1000 by 1000 px and texts in all national languages, in BMEcat or ETIM xChange (the Sonepar Product Data Guidelines). The Techlink Data Portal also accepts its own Excel format with 116 fields.
EPREL and the marketplaces
Registration of every model before it is placed on the market, with label, product information sheet and technical documentation. Online the label as nested display with the scale range, plus the product information sheet. bol, Amazon and the MediaMarkt Saturn marketplace check this strictly.
DIY chains via GS1
Brico, Gamma, Hubo and Aveve via the GS1 database with the Benelux data model for DIY, garden and pet: GTIN per packaging level, energy class, Recupel and Bebat contribution, dimensions and weight per piece, box and pallet, images according to GS1 naming.
Electrical retail and Open Icecat
Vanden Borre, MediaMarkt, Krëfel and Coolblue work with their own supplier portals and with content aggregators such as Open Icecat, where you approve your datasheet once and the retailers fetch it.
Lighting designers, installers and your webshop
Photometric files (LDT, IES, GLDF) and BIM objects for Dialux and the specifiers, filters on colour temperature, lumens and dimming protocol on your webshop, connectors for Shopify, WooCommerce and Magento, and product sheets as PDF in your house style per language.
The approach

Live in one month, product group by product group.

No long IT project. This is the order from the whitepaper, as we apply it at Belgian lighting and electrical brands.

Inventory and data design

Which Excels, which channels, which customers. Product tree (model and variant on light colour, power, housing colour), specification library with units and decimals, taxonomy and validation rules.

02◆

Field model, ETIM and EPREL

Your Excel columns mapped to the specifications, products linked to the ETIM classes, model identifier checked against EPREL, label and product information sheet as assets on the model, energy class split into class plus range.

03▣

Documents and contributions

Manuals per language, declarations of conformity and LDT files on the product, Recupel and Bebat contributions as separate fields, support period for connected devices, price and stock from the ERP.

The wholesaler, your webshop or the GS1 database fed automatically. Then you scale up, product group by product group and channel by channel.

Frequently asked questions from the electrical sector

Does PimLayer work with the energy label and the EPREL registration?

Yes. The energy label, the product information sheet and the EPREL registration number are linked to the model, with version control; the variants inherit them. That way you never publish a wrong or outdated label and you show the class with the scale range online.

Does PimLayer support ETIM for the electrical wholesalers?

Yes. You link your products to the ETIM classes and map your specifications to the features, and export in BMEcat or ETIM xChange to wholesalers and data pools. What the class asks for and you don't have shows up as a gap in your readiness before you deliver.

How do I manage manuals and declarations of conformity in three languages?

As documents that hang on the product, per language, with version and date. PimLayer is a PIM and a DAM in one, so the manual NL, FR and DE, the declaration of conformity and the LDT file sit on the product and flow to every channel that asks for them.

What if a marketplace takes my products offline because of the energy label?

Then the product information sheet, the EPREL ID or the scale range is usually missing. With product readiness per channel you see that before you publish; with the EPREL assets on the model you fix it in one export.

How long does an implementation take, and do I need IT?

You usually go live within a month, 27 days on average, with onboarding included and a first channel fed automatically. PimLayer is configured, not programmed; IT mainly comes in for the ERP link.
